COLOR PERCEPTION

The colors on monitors

In the color charts featured in this website, you can get an idea of the possible Xadrez® combinations. We also present some pigments mixed in whitewash, white cement and gray cement so you can compare the results of the colors obtained.

It may seem tempting to choose the colors based on the charts available, but we warn you: Never use monitor charts as models!

First of all, because the colors may vary depending on the color settings of your monitor, for each computer has a different specification. For example, some machines present a tendency for red or green, others may be brighter and others may have more or less contrasts.

Second, because the color of monitor pixels in light-color, while the colors we use in our paintings is opaque pigment-color. The RGB (Red, Green and Blue) are the primary colors that constitute light-color forming a scale between 0 and 255, in which 0 stands for black, that is, the projection of no colors, and 255 stands for white, that is, the projection of all colors.

(Pictures A and B)

The opaque pigment-color is the model we use in our everyday paintings, on walls, pictures, or objects. The primary colors of this model are the following: red, yellow and blue, colors of paints that behave differently from light-color. In this case, the absence of color is white, the supporting color; and the combination of the three elements theoretically constitutes black.

We are very familiar with color-pigments so we have an idea of the shades we can get. After all, we all have once drawn a chromatic circle based on primary colors.

Note that they are two very different models. RGB is hypothetical, while color-pigment is real. Therefore, even if the monitor colors fascinate you with their glow, do not try to reproduce them, for the result will not be the planned one and will also be a little dull compared to your expectations.
