Wall coarse mortar finishing

Materials needed:

Prepare a dry mixture with the following amounts of materials, using 18-liter cans as measure units:

  • Pó Xadrez in the desired color;
  • 1 cement can (25 kg);
  • 3 cans of sand.

For each cement can, add 1,5 kg of Pó Xadrez in the desired color.

Coarse mortar finishing is an adhesive mortar made with cement and medium or thick sand, depending on the final result you want to obtain. It provides conditions for the fixation of other element (over the closing surfaces of walls, blocks, bricks etc.) and it can also be used as a decorative element on walls. If you want to obtain lighter colors, use white cement and reduce the quantity of Pó Xadrez. This yielding may vary according to the coarse mortar finishing’s thickness.

Step 1: mix it until you obtain a homogeneous color.

Step 2: add water until obtaining the consistency of a coarse mortar finishing. Before application, check that the surface does not feature humidity caused by infiltration, fungus or failures.

Step 3: wet the surface with drinking water before applying the coarse mortar finishing.

Step 4: apply the coarse mortar finishing utilizing the medium-size sieve (for better finishing). Throw it towards the wall using a masonry trowel and hold the sieve in an upright position (straight), creating a thin, smooth layer on the wall.

Yielding: about 30 m2 for each 50 kg package of cement. One 50 kg package of cement yields about 2 cans of 18 liters each.
