What do the symbols 1:5 and 1:10 printed on Pó Xadrez’s packages stand for?
1:5 means that 1 measure of Pó Xadrez must be mixed with the equivalent of 5 times the same measure of cement. For example, 1 glass of Pó Xadrez for 5 glasses of cement.
1:10 means that 1 part of Pó Xadrez must be mixed with 10 parts of cement or painting whitewash. For example, 1 can of Pó Xadrez for 10 cans of cement or painting whitewash. Which pigment and cement dosages should I use for strengthening or weakening the color intensity ?
For obtaining average and intense, we recommend using 1 and a half kilo of Pó Xadrez for each 18-liter can of cement or, if you prefer lighter colors, reduce the quantity of Pó Xadrez or use white cement.
How much does Pó Xadrez yield?
The yielding of Pó Xadrez may vary depending on the kind of application and the thickness of the floor or mortar.
- For application on burnt cement: 01 bag of cement (50 Kg) yields approximately 30 m2 and a thickness of 1 to 1.5 mm
- For paining with whitewash: the mixture of 8 Kg of whitewash and 500 g of Pó Xadrez yields 20 m2 for each 2 coatings..
- Acrylic texture: the mixture of 250 g for each 3.6-liter yields enough for covering an area of 2 m2.
- Mortar: approximately 35 m2 per 50 Kg-bag of cement (This yield may vary depending on the thickness of the mortar).
- Coarse Wall Coating: Pó Xadrez mixed with 1 bag of cement (50 kg) yields enough for covering an area of about 30 m 2.
- Concrete floor: The yielding is about 5 m2 of floor per 50 Kg- bag of cement (this yielding may vary depending on the floor thickness).
How can I get a color catalogue for painting whitewash?
LANXESS makes available for its clients only the color catalogue for gray and white cement; however, you can order some combinations of colors for painting whitewash by contacting our Customer Support Service - dial 0800 - 77 07 743.
How can I remove stains of Xadrez® pigment from wall tiles and ceramics?
Removing pigment stains is very simple - we recommend that you just use a sponge with water and soap.
Is it proper to use kitchen oil, powder soap and white glue for preparing whitewash paint?
The soap and oil recipe is very old. Nowadays we recommend the use of a retainer instead of oil and soap. The painting whitewash retainer is more practical and efficient. It is sold in all construction material stores and the dosages are described in the packaging. The PVA-based white glue is used to increase adherence and resistance. We recommend using it together with a retainer. The recommended dosage is 1 liter of white glue for each 8-kg bag of painting whitewash
What should I use for the finishing touch of the burnt cement floor?
To luster and waterproof the burnt cement floor, we recommend applying a solvent-based acrylic resin following the resin manufacturer’s use instructions. Be careful with the application locations, for some waterproofing products make the floor slippery. It is also possible to apply a colorless pasty wax instead of acrylic resin. To create a protection film it is necessary to apply several coatings.
Is it possible to apply colored whitewash on a wall that has already been painted with latex paint?
We do not recommend the use of colored whitewash on walls already painted with latex paint and waterproofing products, for the surface may compromise the whitewash adherence, and thus, the final result as well.
What is the recommended pigment dosage for use in sealing mortar?
For a 5 kg-bag of sealing mortar use up to 250 g of pigment in the desired color
What is the difference between Liquid Xadrez and Liquid Dye products?
An important difference between these two products is the size of the packaging: Liquid Xadrez is available in big 600 ml bottles and the Liquid Dye is sold in small 50 ml-tube. Liquid Xadrez (600 ml) is available in six colors: yellow, red, green, blue, brown and black. It is a concentrated liquid pigment with high dying power, easy to disperse and mix, resistant to weather actions and indicated for applications in mortars, concrete, acrylic texture, liquid wax, painting washing, varnishes and other water-based applications. It is different from the Liquid Dye (50 ml), which is a pigment in 9 colors, recommended only for water-based paints. It also has the Xadrez brand printed in the packaging, but is manufactured by Sherwin Williams (Globo Tintas Division).
What is the difference between Pó Xadrez and Liquid Xadrez ?
Pó Xadrez is a traditional product that has been used for a long time in the renowned burnt floor. It is stored in 250 and 500 gram-boxes and presented in 6 colors. It is suitable to dye mortars, concrete, acrylic texture, liquid wax, whitewash paint and varnishes, among other applications. Xadrez is a recent LANXESS launching, also available in 6 colors and stored in 600 ml packaging. It is a concentrated liquid pigment, with high dying power. Its liquid formulation makes the applications easier and prevents dirt. However it is not suitable in burnt cement applications, pasty wax, varnish and solvent-based resin, for which Pó Xadrez is more indicated.
Why are the colors black, green and blue more recommended for internal areas?
The yellow, red and brown of liquid or powder Xadrez are iron oxide-based inorganic pigments. Therefore they have high dying power and resistance when exposed to the sun, rain and wind. The green, blue and black are organic-based pigments, and even though they have high dying power, they have less resistance to weather actions. Therefore they are more suitable for internal areas.
Is there any difference between the shades obtained from the combination of Pó Xadrez® or Liquid Xadrez with different products, such as cement, whitewash, or paint?
Yes. The color of each application material influences the mixture’s final shade. Gray cement, for example, produces darker colors than those obtained from white cement. on the total final mixture. Gray cement, for example, makes colors darker than white cement. application texture also interferes in the color, for the color issues different reflections in flat or porous applications
Is Pó Xadrez sold in bulk or in packages?
Currently, Pó Xadrez is only available in 500 and 250 g boxes.
Can I use Pó Xadrez with latex paint?
Yes. We recommend diluting Pó Xadrez in a small quantity of water, then adding this mixture to the water-based paint. Pó Xadrez added to the paint features light and average colors, that is, you will not obtain very intense colors.
